As Good As Dead

As good as dead, a legacy was bred
of simple faith, a faith by its god led
to see beyond, to do more than one could
alone. If I could think like that, I would
have made as lasting that of our own bed.

It won’t get done. I’ll leave you this instead,
this orphaned dream, this barren road ahead
ending with your chance at fatherhood
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀as good as dead.

Forget me, love. Find someone else to wed,
go have a normal family. Leave unread
my necromantic fantasies. You should
go live, not have to live though what I’ve stood
up to, with all I’ve touched and seen and said
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀as good as dead.
