Moonlight and the Macheïde

The macheïde is at it again
after staying up an entire moonless night
that’d already lasted a full month past
                                                                     when it should’ve been
full directly overhead, says this’ll last
until it’s not luck him getting it to die right.
The moonlight will always be there, bright
                                                                     as ever. Her spells cast
                                              futures clear as reliving when
he’d first seen endless shadows in her light.
The macheïde will resign, only then
find a perfection to which he can hold fast.
