Safe and Sound

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀—Luke 15:27

Safe and sound, open accounts in the black
(thanks, father), my old room left intact
just so, us none the worse for wear
having gone so far to come so near
making it work. My word makes good on its act.

What’s our body count? I’ve not kept track
who got left abandoned where attacked.
Who’s that leave us? Can we hide out here
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀safe and sound?

Mother wants a word with us. In fact,
now before we take time to unpack,
celebrate, draw straws who’ll play the heir
next round, or seem almost sincere
what a fuss she’ll make having us both back
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀safe and sound.
