He’s Nothing

He’s nothing if not devoted. Poor old hound!
Sleeps by the window waiting for the sound
of her return. He scarcely eats or drinks
enough to keep him going. All he thinks
he needs to live’s to have her back around.

Someone else will help him get rewound
eventually. All he’s lost’ll get found
again. With no love in his life, he sinks—
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀He’s nothing.

How blue he’s gone! As blue as if he’d drowned
a month ago, the body washed aground
and left unclaimed until the carcass stinks.
What used to be a charm’s become a jinx
he needs to break. She’s got him so spellbound,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀he’s nothing.
