Staying in Bed

You’ve started your morning shower. Alone. Alone
I try waking with you near, curling up as though.

I could sneak in, make your water all the way cold
so you’ll pull my body in with yours for a shield.

Or hide in the blankets, make you look for your lover
where you’d slipped off risking her dreaming of another.

Better yet, figure out our motel room coffee maker
then make myself busy at being this day’s packer.

Oh you’re showered? Did I drowse? Here, come
back in bed, love. Let’s see what’s left undone.
